- 1 1/2 c moong or urhad dal or yellow split peas
- 4 c water
- 1 tsp salt
Cook split peas in water and walt until all is very soft and most of the water is absorbed. Stir often.
- 3 Tbl butter
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/2 inch stick cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp cayenne (we use about 1/4 of 1/4)
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 6 whole cloves
Heat butter, add spices & stir them around fro a few minutes until the seeds start to pop.
Pour spices in dal and let simmer 'til desired consistency.
